The best day for surgery?!?

My dad had very bad arthritis in his knees, so the doctor put him on the waiting list for knee replacement surgery. The doc warned him not to get his hopes up that it would be anytime soon, because the waiting list was at least two years long.

A few weeks later, dad’s at home in the evening watching TV with my mom, when the phone rings… it’s someone from the hospital asking him if he can come in right away (i.e., that night) and he can have his surgery in the morning… they’ve had a cancellation and no-one on the waiting list can come in on such short notice. Dad can’t believe his luck! So he packs up and heads to the hospital.

The next morning, he has his surgery, all goes well, and he’s in the recovery room. The man in the next bed strikes up a conversation and asks dad, “Sooooooo… did you get called to come in at the last minute last night too?!”

Dad looks surprised and says, “Yeah… how did you know?!? You mean you did too?!?”

And the guy replies, “Yessir… isn’t it great?!! Friday the 13^th and everyone cancels their surgery!”
